Miracle claimed after wafer ‘turns into’ human heart

(2009-10-02) Church-goers in Poland are claiming a miracle after a holy wafer turned into a human heart.

During Holy Communion, a priest dropped a piece of the wafer on the floor. He put it in to a dish with holy water, believing that this would cleanse and dissolve it.

But rather than dissolving it turned red. He had it checked by two independent doctors, both of whom confirmed that it was piece of human heart.

“I pray fervently for it to be a real Eucharist miracle,” says local 30-year old Agnieszka Dowgiert. “I believe that this is a piece of Jesus's heart. A similar phenomena happened in Lanciano in Italy,” she added.

But while locals are clearly excited, others remain cautious: “While this event appears to be unusual, there are still question marks. The matter should be approached very carefully,” says priest Andrzej Debski. “So, for now let us talk of it as a paranormal phenomenon,” he added.

“This is a matter requiring restraint. And most of all an explanation. But I ask everyone to pray that this phenomenon was truly a miracle,” says Father Stanislaw Gniedziejko, pastor of the parish of St. Anthony in Sokolka in northeast Poland where the incident occurred.

Church authorities are now investigating whether the phenomenon will indeed turn out to be a Eucharistic miracle like the one that happened in Lanciano in Italy in the 8th century when a holy wafer turned to flesh and wine turned into blood.

Miracles do happen; but not all strange happenings are miracles. Let the Church study this matter and decide. We shall wait fervently and hopefully, without expecting a quick decision.

Christ may be sending us a massage here, asking us to initiate a worldwide spiritual revival; let us keep our minds in receptive mode, and strive to revive our spirituality without waiting for miracles to happen or to be confirmed.

Those of us who are convinced Christians will certainly regard the event as a possible miracle; and those that don't will find all sorts of far fetched alternative explanations, which may be more incredible than the original event.

Hello,
I am from that town and it is a lovely church and this is a true miracle and hopefully it will be soon confirmed and we will have a St. Anthony's Sanctuary at our lovely town.

The Church has a vested interest in having this declared a miracle. If you want the truth of the subject, instead of having the Church investigate it, you should have a skeptic do the work. I would like to suggest Joe Nickell at the Center for Inquiry here in the U.S.

So, it kinda seems like someone was murdered, or perhaps a specimen was stolen from a lab somewhere. Either way, it's most likely that a crime was committed. This is very disturbing.

"and those that don't will find all sorts of far fetched alternative explanations,"

You have no have no idea how ironic that sound, do you?

Of course, I doubt the fanatics will allow this to be actually investigated.

This seems like a rather strange (and rather Catholic centric) "miracle" for the creator of the universe to perform. You would think something that couldn't be so easily faked just to make sure he really got through to the skeptics. Oh, well, probably another one of those things we'll have to "wait until we get to heaven" to understand.

This is great! Now, with modern technology, we should be able to get a DNA sample. They couldn't do that in the 8th century.

This should be interesting.

And of course it's a piece of his heart and not a piece of his nose, colon or "naughty" bits. Puh-lease!

People please. We are no longer in the 8th century, please stop believing in myths and fairy tales.

Wow... Pretty embarrassed right now. Do you not have better things to do than this?

1. Where did this happen? There are a ton of small churches everywhere - most towns have their own that's a few hundred years old.

2. The priests are often scumbags who troll for girls... sometimes boys. They drive around in their BMWs, looking for girls to "minister" to. I'd sooner trust Satan than most of those priests.

3. I'd start investigating just where the priest got a "human heart". Microscopically, you can see if it's cardiac muscle easily (if you know what to look for), but it takes genotyping to find out the species. Could easily be a chicken heart that feel from his robes after lunch.

4. People are LEAVING the church because of priests like this - scam artists like Rydzyk on Radio Maria steal the money of the gullible and stupid. My great-aunt ONLY listened to him... and called us communists because he told her he was just a thief.
