In an unusual case a Krakow court granted permission to force feed an Algerian arrested for attempted murder in Opatow, Swietokrzyskie, currently being held on remand in the Malopolskie capital. The Algerian was arrested in Opatow in mid-May after attacking his Polish wife with a knife.The couple, who are married under Islamic law and have a son, had become estranged and the man was unable to accept it. On being remanded in custody he went on hunger strike, citing religious grounds, and refused both solid and liquid sustenance.
