After two weeks in which the south of the country was being battered, it was Gdansk’s turn to be hit by a flash flood, following a storm in which 50 litres of water fell for every square metre. The storm could be felt approaching from morning, but the severity of the cloudburst was totally unexpected. Rain began falling at 1pm, soon after the city’s streets were awash and an embankment collapsed causing all train movements in and out of the city to be blocked for several hours.
