Polski Radio report that Marcin Gortat, aka ‘The Polish Hammer’, has become the highest earning Polish sportsman of all time after signing a contract worth $5.8 million per year with NBA team the Dallas Mavericks.

Gortat has been signed as a free agent, however his current side, Orlando Magic, could still retain him should they take up the option of bettering the pay deal on offer from the Mavericks. Either way, with eight per cent annual wage increases standard in basketball, Gortat looks set to coin an incredible $33.9 million over the next five years.
