President’s stalling over ambassador nominations leaves Tusk and Sikorski smarting
A bitter row has broken out between the government and the President over ambassadorial appointments, with President Lech Kaczynski yet to sign off on up to 100 diplomatic nominations which, the Foreign Ministry says, could seriously impair relations with other countries.“The number of unsigned ambassadorial nominations is just piling up,” Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told TVP television last week, citing Afghanistan, Argentina, China and Egypt among the key countries awaiting new ambassadors, as well as Poland’s missions to the UN, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Western European Union.
