Mass grave discovery could be a second Katyn

Local people in a town in Belarus have discovered human remains that could well be the remnants of Poles murdered by Stalin’s NKVD.


Bone fragments and personal belongings of about 20 to 30 people were unearthed in the grounds of the Orthodox cathedral in the town of Hlybokaye. Researchers say that personal effects found amongst the remains suggest that they were Poles, and that there could be more bodies yet to be discovered.

Local historians have suggested that victims were probably killed on the orders of Stalin after the Soviet Union annexed eastern Poland.
