Hitler tree to be shipped to Toronto

The oak tree planted to celebrate Hitler's 53rd birthday could soon be shipped to Toronto where it will be chopped up to help build a synagogue.


The tree, in the south-east town of Jaslo, has caused controversy after local mayor Maria Kurowska said she wanted it removed to make space for a new roundabout. 

But locals are not happy. "It should remain as a living memory of the dark days of the Nazis," says Kazmierz Polak who saw the tree being planted in 1942.

If the plans go ahead, the synagogue will be modelled upon the one in Jaslo destroyed that was destroyed by the Nazis. ...
