There is to be a major effort to clean up the river Brda at Bydgoszcz, with all the sewers that feed directly into the river being closed as soon as two new pumping stations come online. This is to be followed by a massive dredging operation to remove about half a metre of silt deposited in the river over the last fifty years.

Artur Zadrag of the dredging company told Gazeta Bydgoszcz, “The deposits will be tested for toxicity. The harmless stuff will be used to strengthen the banks or build flood walls, the remainder will be carried to waste dumps.”
