Independent Krakow taxi drivers are up in arms following the imposition of a maximum price by the City Hall. The limit stands at PLN 2.8 per kilometre, while an independent driver called Jurek has been operating at PLN 3 and says it’s barely profitable, “taxis aren’t buses, we won’t drive for free,” he told radio Tok FM.

He has got together with other independent drivers and they have appealed against the decision, claiming the bylaw is unconstitutional. This doesn’t explain why the majority of radio taxis will not be raising their prices from the current level of only PLN 2.3.
