Local mayors in the Lublin region are asking their civil servants to fill out applications for EU finance badly, so as to be sure not to qualify for funding, as they don’t have the money for their part of the deal. The absurd situation is to an extent being forced on them by local residents demanding EU investment. In order not to incur the wrath of their electorate, the mayors submit the faulty applications so they can say they tried but were turned down.
