Madonna, beavers, hooligans and a home on wheels all feature in the Poznan news this week. As unwelcome as Madonna appears to be in some parts of the capital, the Wielkopolska village of Rumin, near Konin, is enamoured of the American star, naming Madonna Street after her and offering her an acre of land as well as honorary citizenship. They have sent information to the star’s agent but as yet received no reply as to whether their offer will be accepted. Undeterred, this Saturday, the day of Madonna’s Warsaw concert, Rumin will be organising a fete, including a Madonna lookalike competition and residents singing her songs.
