The American General Motors company has requested EUR 1 bln from Poland, Great Britain, and Spain for the restructuring of its German Opel division. In exchange, GM has pledged to invest another EUR 1 bln in the division, the Wall Street Journal reported. Opel employs more than 2500 people at its production plant in Gliwice.

Polish fisherman resumed fishing for cod on Tuesday as a two-month ban imposed by the EU came to an end. The temporary halt followed a year-long ban in 2008 on cod fishing by Polish boats after Poland exceeded its limits by three-fold in 2007. The quotas are designed to prevent the depletion of fish stocks in the Baltic.
