Polish football hit new lows in comedy this week after national coach Leo Beenhakker was fired on live TV by an apparently drunk FA chief, Grzegorz Lato. ‘This was his last match’, stormed Lato in the aftermath of Poland’s 3-0 defeat away in Slovenia, thus bringing the axe down on a man he has never seen eye-to-eye with.
Following on from Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Northern Ireland, Poland went down 3-0 in Maribor making qualification virtually impossible regardless of the results of their final 2 Group 3 games.
