Police have caught the hackers who stole the personal data of some 100,000 users from the wykop.pl web site.

Seven people, including three teenagers, were arrested for stealing the data and demanding ransom for their return. The hackers apparently passed some data on to others, but site administrators said that any sensitive information was encrypted and therefore safe.

The EU is requesting Poland return EUR 100 mln in farming subsidies for failing to create an adequate system for mapping farms that received subsidies in 2006 and 2007. Poland claims its oversight was adequate. The decision has not yet officially been announced and can be appealed.
