In Plock this week a Renault Kangoo, specially adapted for transporting a child suffering from a rare condition known as harlequin type ichthyosis, was stolen, leaving the six-year-old Julia without her only window on the world.

The disease is an untreatable condition that invariably leads to premature death, sufferers rarely surviving into their twenties, where almost all physical contact is extremely painful and can lead to injuries. The car enabled Julia to see a little of the world, including her favourite animals: horses, which she went to see last week. Without the car, she is trapped in her flat.
