LOT to cut workforce

The Polish state airline LOT has announced restructuring plans that include laying off 440 employees – some 10 percent of its total workforce.
LOT spokesman Andrzej Kozlowski told Polskie Radio that the cutbacks are a necessary part of the airline’s restructuring efforts, aimed at returning the company to profitability.
He added that LOT plans to work with union leaders to come up with ways to cut costs, which would allow more jobs to be saved.
The airline had originally told union leaders that 900 people would be made redundant. However, the airline quickly responded to the concerns of the unions, and agreed to their proposal to cut pay rather than jobs.
