Polish anger over any insinuation that Poland played a role in the Holocaust came to the surface last week after a leading British actor and comic told people to “remember” that Auschwitz was in Poland, not Germany.
Speaking on British television to express his anger over links between Briton’s Conservative Party and Law and Justice (PiS), Stephen Fry implied that Poles were in some way responsible for the slaughter of European Jews.
“Let’s face it, there has been a history in Poland of right-wing Catholicism, which has been deeply disturbing for those of us who know a little history, and remember which side of the border Auschwitz was on,” he said.
