Government hit by cyberattack

Computer servers at government institutions were the victims of a co-ordinated cyber attack early last month, which are thought to have originated from Russia.

While details are scarce, Rzeczpospolita reported that the attack occurred at a particularly poignant moment in September, as Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Westerplatte for the commemoration of the start of the Second World War.    

According to the daily, the attack was timed to hit a number of different Polish governmental institution servers at once.

This however, was not altogether successful, due to Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) which blocked and dealt with the problem as it occurred.
