they went for a walk, spraying vulgarities on cars, road signs and an electrical substation before breaking into a shop and stealing eight cases of beer
The news from Wroclaw this week is a rogues gallery of drunks, thieves and drunken thieves. A group of five hooligans from Zlotoryja aged from 19 to 22 went on a drunken rampage this week. It all started with a party in one of their flats that then, out of boredom, moved down to the basement. There they had the idea to break into a neighbour’s cellar, taking a pram and eight cans of spray paint. Then they went for a walk, spraying vulgarities on cars, road signs and an electrical substation before breaking into a shop and stealing eight cases of beer, which they went on to sell in another shop. The damage caused is estimated at several thousand zloty and the men face up to ten years in prison for their party.
Car ransom
Wroclaw police arrested a man attempting to sell a stolen vehicle back to its owner in a sting operation this week. The Volkswagen T-4 delivery vehicle was stolen in Holland, with the owner also losing all his documents at the same time. Several weeks later, he received a call offering to return his property for a mere EUR 1600. In collaboration with police the victim set up a handover at a Wroclaw filling station. When the thief arrived and accepted the money police swooped and arrested him. The van was discovered nearby.

Shortly after his arrest, though, the man collapsed into such a drunken slumber that by Thursday evening police had still been unable to question him. When he awakes in his cell, he can expect to stay there for up to ten years once he is found guilty of breaking and entering.
Crash bang wallop
In an unusual case this week, Walbrzych police attended the scene of a crash caused by an 18-year-old Opel driver and ended up arresting the person he crashed into, too. The teenager was arrested for failing to give way and causing a collision, but his 23-year-old victim was found to have 0.2% of alcohol in his blood and doesn’t possess a valid driving licence. In another incident a simple road check led to the arrest of a 21-year-old when they found 36 portions of amphetamine in his car. A search of his house led to a further 222 portions of the drug with a combined weight of 1.5kg and a street value of PLN 50,000. The man faces ...
