Anniversary of murdered priest, as IPN press charges against former security officer

Twenty-five years after the murder of Father Jerzy Poplieluszko prosecutors announced that they will bring charges against a former communist official, accusing him of harassing a man considered by many as Polish national hero.Lawyers from the Institute of National Remembrance said that the charges relate to apparent attempts to place false evidence on the priest, who at the time was closely associated with Solidarity and had become a symbol of opposition to the one-party state.
It is believed that the communist official planned to discredit the priest.
