Money that doesn't exist
Jarek owns the largest house on the street. It’s also the most modern and boasts six bedrooms, three bathrooms and a colourful brick driveway that sweeps from the electric gates right up to the front door which itself shelters from the midday sun beneath and Italian style columned porch. His spotless Mercedes sits patiently by the detached garage. Jarek lives in absolute poverty ... officially.
He also comes highly recommended by locals if you need a new roof but on a first encounter he will deny everything.
‘I don’t know why you came to me,” he will say with a shrug of the shoulders. “I’ve never fitted a roof before in my life!”
But between the rebuffs come questions.
