Experts divided over 'miracle' in Polish church

Claims of a miracle in which a piece of communion bread apparently turned into human heart tissue has provoked a storm in scientific circles after a medical expert suggested divine intervention may have taken place.

Professor Lech Chyczewski, a blood specialist from the medical university in Bialystok, has distanced the institution from research carried out by his colleague Professor Sobaniec-Lotowaska, which had suggested that the material found was heart tissue.

Saying that the “tests were carried out illegally, secretly and not in the correct manner”, he added that she may have been blinded by faith.
