Jail space a problem in Poland

Polish prisons have come under fire, following The European Court of Human Rights paying out compensation to prisoners who complained about overcrowded cells.


Recent statistics released by the prison authorities show that the average prison population currently stands at 110 percent - resulting in many inmates receiving less than their statutory 3 square metres of space.

To date, more than 160 complaints have been lodged against the Polish prison authorities regarding this problem. ...
