Poland Boss Announced

As expected former Lech Poznan gaffer Franciszek Smuda has been appointed Poland boss, succeeding Leo Beenhakker, fired live on air just a month ago. ‘Smuda has proper character and is able to find a common language with footballers,’ said an FA spokesman, ‘he also has charisma, thanks to which he’ll keep the players in line’. Smuda is thought to have polled 15 votes out of a possible 16, beating contenders such as Alberto Zaccheroni and Avram Grant. His first job will be to halt Poland’s alarming slide, one which has seen the national team slide below Mali in the FIFA world rankings, and led to a fan boycott of home games.
