We want to encourage the visually impaired to come and study with us

Politechnika Opolska has opened the first library in the region specially adapted for the needs of the blind or those with impaired vision, and it’s open to all, not only students. The library contains a speech synthesizer as well as a computer with braille keyboard and a monitor with special screen magnifier. “We’ve finally managed it, after two years of effort,” a pleased Dr Elzbieta Czerwinska from the Main Library told reporters.

The Polish speech synthesizer is of enormous benefit to the blind and visually impaired and can read not only from the library’s own large collection, but also from any material found on the Internet. Text from the internet can also be reproduced using ...
