Polish economy pulls ahead
Poland is positioned to overtake Hungary and Estonia in terms of economic development, according to the EC. The per capita GDP of Poland was only about three-quarters of Estonia's in 2007, but with that Baltic state facing a nearly 14 percent decline in GDP and Hungary expecting a 6.5 decline this year, the EC says Poland's EUR 14,000 per capita GDP in 2009 – just over half that of Germany – will put it ahead of its neighbours.
