A 500kg UXB from World War II was discovered in the centre of Wroclaw this Thursday afternoon leading to evacuations and a large area of the city being closed to traffic. It was about 1pm when builders called police to inform them of the discovery. Sappers were immediately called to the site and began to cordon the area off within a 300m radius of the bomb.

About 3,000 people were evacuated from nearby homes, a shopping mall and the Opera. Buses were provided for evacuees to wait in, but numbers were smaller than could have been expected as many people were out at work.
