New Poland boss Franciszek Smuda recorded his first victory this week, with an 18th minute goal by Maciej Rybus proving just enough to secure a 1-0 win over visiting Canada. A half capacity crowd of ten thousand saw the Poles edge the game, a match which puts to bed a poor run which has seen the red and whites fail to hit the target four games running. The much needed result came days after Smuda opened his career as national manager with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Romania. ‘Things that start badly end well’, said Smuda after the game, ‘I am patient.
