HIV cop in illegal dismissal

Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal has ruled that it was illegal to fire a policeman after it was discovered that he was HIV positive.
In 2006, the Gdansk cop underwent a voluntarily medical test which showed him to be positive. The Interior Ministry’s medical committee then decided he was incapable of performing his duties.
After appealing against the decision, the Constitutional Tribunal found that in accordance with a policy dating back to 1991, it was in fact illegal to dismiss a policeman on the grounds of him having HIV.
The ruling may now set a precedent for others in the public service. ...
