Polish troops prepare to depart for war-torn Afghanistan
Poland will send more troops to Afghanistan despite the prime minister saying that he was “no enthusiast” for the mission.The government announced that it had decided to deploy a further 600 soldiers to the war-torn country, bringing the total number of Polish troops in the region to 2,600.
Speaking about the need to bolster Poland’s commitment to the war, Donald Tusk, the prime minister, said that he was “no enthusiast of the Afghan mission” but accepted that it was necessary owing to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which deems an attack on one NATO member as an attack on all.
