Officials at Warsaw’s City Hall have indulged in a little financial prestidigitation and come up with an extra PLN 430 mln to accelerate work on the city’s new metro, thereby making it likely that the second underground line to Praga will be ready in time for the Euro 2012 football championships.

“The contractor positively surprised us with their building schedule, that’s why we decided to reshuffle the finances,” Tomasz Andryszczyk, press officer for City Hall told reporters. This fiscal engineering, though, has been managed without harming any of the city’s other major investment projects in any way.
