Gas talks stalled again Poland and Russia continue to wrestle over sticking points in talks on a long-term gas contract that will set the terms for gas supplies through 2037.

Polish negotiators are demanding that the Russian Gazprom pay PLN 1 bln its owes for past transit fees and undelivered gas. The Russian supplier argues that the debt is owed by RosUkrEnergo, a company it took over in 2008, after the debts were incurred. The stalled talks are unlikely to affect gas supplies in the near future.

Highway work too slow for EURO 2010

Construction of the A1 motorway is behind schedule and may not be ready to carry football fans to matches during EURO 2012. The highway runs from north to south, and will link two cities hosting matches – Gdansk with Katowice. The government has given Autostrada Poludnie, the company building the road, until January 22 to acquire the funding it needs to begin work or risk losing the contract. The search for a new contractor would likely make it impossible to finish construction before the European football championships.
