An oil spillage from a regional pipeline under the Vistula river caused concerns after some media reported that a 20- kilometre oil slick was heading for the Baltic Sea. Russian newspapers carried stories of impending ecological catastrophe, apparently in the belief that the main Russia-Poland Druzhba pipeline had ruptured.
