Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski faces the biggest battle of his career as he attempts to salvage his reputation following a Wednesday night horror show during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat away in Porto.

Just hours after manager Arsene Wenger had praised his talent and potential the 24 year old Polish stand-in gifted Porto a head start, before then confounding the watching public by handing the hosts a second having been penalized for picking up the ball following an innocuous back pass from Sol Campbell. Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been quick to rally round the embattled Pole, claiming that the rest of the squad have full faith in his ability. ‘He’s a good keeper’, said Fabregas, ‘Lukasz is strong and we have to be there for him’. English tabloids have been less forgiving, with The Sun rating him 1/10 for his performance, before likening the luckless Fabianski to a ‘basket case’. Fabianski will be looking to make amends this weekend against Sunderland – if picked.
