Kowalczyk goes for silver
World cross country skiing champion, Justyna Kowalczyk, has been accused of arrogance and sour grapes following her performance in the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Prior to the 10km dash Kowalczyk had claimed the track was neither challenging enough for herself, nor worthy of the Olympics. ‘After my first training run here I was almost crying because, for me, this is such an easy track’. Not that easy obviously, in the event Kowalczyk finished a poor fifth. Kowalczyk, cleared of doping allegations in 2005, had better luck in the individual sprint, but could still only claim second having been beaten to gold by Norwegian Marit Bjoren.
