Adam Malysz snatched the first Polish medal of the Olympics with a fantastic display that had fans dreaming of yesteryear.

Malysz, in the swansong of his career, hit back at critics with a performance worthy of his almost mythic status. Having won the World Cup four times in his life, Malysz had been hoping to draw the curtains on a glittering career with his first Olympic gold; in the end ‘The Flying Moustache’ had to settle for second best, edged out by Simon Ammann. Malysz, sporting as ever, was undeterred: ‘After eight years I’ve returned to the Olympic podium – it’s extraordinary’. Malysz gets another shot at glory in this weekends individual large hill.
