“That’s not the law, it’s anarchy!”
Gorzow Transport Company officials are up in arms, preparing to defy the citizens’ rights ombudsman, Janusz Kochanowski, over the authority of their ticket inspectors to hold fare dodgers against their will. The ombudsman recently issued an edict declaring that not allowing fare dodgers to disembark the tram or bus until they hand over identification was against the law.“An inspector is not a police officer and cannot detain anyone,” Kochanowski declared in his decision. “That’s not the law, it’s anarchy!” exclaimed an outraged Roman Urbanczyk, Gorzow’s transport boss, adding, “We’re not going to alter the rules just to make it easier for fare dodgers.” If pushed, Gorzo ...
