“I used the lamp for twenty years and nothing happened. I didn’t want to start a fire or hurt anybody”.
Lucyna K. was in court this week facing charges of accidentally causing a fire on ul. Kraszewska in Jan 2009 in which three people died. The 59-year-old denies she did anything wrong and blames the blaze on a short circuit.The story (see NPE 6/6) hit the headlines because fire officers decided not to investigate despite receiving a call telling them there had been a fire. When the caller, a neighbour of Lucyna K., confirmed three times that the fire had been extinguished, duty officers decided not to respond.
