Police were forced to fight back crowds with water cannons
The Lodz derby last weekend was convincingly won by second division leaders Widzew but the victory was marred by crowd trouble, despite Widzew fans already being under a stadium ban imposed for trouble earlier in the season.
The ban didn’t stop a large group of Widzew fans congregating near the LKS stadium. The hooligans pelted police with stones and were answered with water cannon. In all there were five arrests and nine police vehicles sustained damage.
Meanwhile, Widzew turned out comfortable 4-1 winners despite going in a goal down at half-time. The win leaves them eight points clear at the top of the table, and almost certain candidates for promotion into the Ekstraklasa next se ...
