Pensions could be a problem in the future
Poland’s state social insurance agency ZUS will need to borrow billions of zlotys in coming years to pay out its obligation to pensioners, according to figures it released this week.
The numbers are broken down into pessimistic and optimistic scenarios developed by ZUS. They show that a growing number of retired workers will lead to a shortfall of PLN 65.5-78.6 bln in 2011, and of as high as PLN 92.9 bln in 2015. The projected levels are more than three times higher than the current subsidy paid out of the budget.
