WBK to be sold off
Allied Irish Bank is seeking a buyer for Bank Zachodni WBK, Poland’s fourth largest bank, it was announced on Tuesday. It has asked Morgan Stanley to help with the sale, which is scheduled to take place later this year.
In a speech before parliament on Tuesday, Irish Finance Minister Brian Lenihan explained that AIB must raise at least EUR 7.4 billion in capital this year to meet new minimum capital requirements. The search for a buyer for its Polish affiliate is to begin “immediately.”
