Crump comes out on top
The speedway grand prix season got off to an exciting start last Saturday evening with the European GP in Leszno. Local favourite Tomasz Gollob disappointed, finishing a poor twelfth, but three Poles made it to the semis and at the end of the night Jaroslaw Hampel stood on the podium, one step down from defending world champion Jason Crump.
Gollob never threatened, his bike clearly too slow on the night and his barnstorming runs on the outside never appeared. But the home crowd were able to cheer on Hampel, Janusz Kolodziejczyk and naturalised Pole, Rune Holta, who all lined up together in the first semi-final.
