Komorowski has sparked fury
Acting President Bronislaw Komorowski has sparked controversy by signing an amendment to the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) bill, against the wishes of late president Lech Kaczynski.
The bill, originally put forward by Komorowski’s own party, Civic Platform (PO), helps to neutralise the IPN, which some politicians claim Law and Justice (PiS) were using as a means to track down journalists, artists and politicians who had previous ties with police from the communist era.
But the move has outraged members of PiS, many of whom believe that the bill should have instead been passed on to the Constitutional Tribunal out of respect for the late president.
