A 22-year-old tram driver was killed in a tragic accident at 6.45 this Tuesday morning on his first day on the job. The young man was killed when his tram left the tracks and smashed into a traction pole at the side of the road. Twelve passengers, including two pregnant women, were injured and taken to hospitals in the city. It is suspected that tram number eight was going too fast, too close behind another tram which turned to the left. The number eight hit the junction points before they managed to switch back; a theory supported by witnesses to the crash.
