Ducks are protected under Polish law
Builders have been quick to quash rumours that a wild duck’s nest has been responsible for slowing the work on the A1 motorway near the small southern town of Zory.
The manager of the construction firm said that while there has been a nest found approximately 100 metres from the site of a new bridge, the duck, as well as the 10 eggs, has been secured and is in no danger.
Ducks are amongst some of the wild species under protection by Polish law during their nesting season.
Authorities have confirmed that when the birds hatch, they will be transferred to a safer home, such as a shelter or, better still, a local pond. ...
