An appeals court in Katowice on Nov. 28 upheld a PLN 700,000 compensation award earlier handed to a nine-year-old boy paralysed as a result of medical malpractice.An appeals court in Katowice on Nov. 28 upheld a PLN 700,000 compensation award earlier handed to a nine-year-old boy paralysed as a result of medical malpractice. The verdict is the highest ever passed by a Polish court in a case of this type. Piotr Soszka will also receive a lifetime pension of PLN 1,900 a month and a further PLN 20,000 in damages.
The boy was paralysed five years ago when doctors at the children’s hospital in Katowice pumped more than a litre of liquid into his spine by mistake during a routine operation.
