Jerzy Popieluszko was murdered by Communist police
A Polish priest, assassinated by communist secret police in 1984 was beatified during church services in Warsaw this week.
Jerzy Popieluszko, a staunch supporter of Solidarity, was 37 when he was brutally murdered before having his body dumped in the Vistula Water Reservoir where it was recovered, 11 days later.
Head of the Vatican’s office in charge of Saints, Archbishop Angelo Amatao, gave a speech in which he declared Popieluszko “a martyr who conquered evil with good”.
Over 100,000 attended the event. ...
