Castration law comes into force

A law allowing for the obligatory chemical castration of paedophiles convicted of rape and those found of guilty of incest has come into effect in Poland.
The new law, which was passed by parliament in September last year, means that the country has some of the toughest punishments for sexual criminals in the European Union.
Under its provisions, anyone convicted of raping a child under 15 years old or a family member “can be obliged by a court ruling to undergo pharmaceutical and psychological therapy in order to reduce sex drive.”
