President Komorowski has vowed to unite the country
“Consensus builds because Poland is most important!” With these words Bronislaw Komorowski ended his speech at 8pm on Sunday evening when it became apparent that the Civic Platform (PO) candidate had won the race to be the new President of Poland. Law and Justice (PiS) candidate Jaroslaw Kaczynski shortly after conceded defeat and announced, “I should, as good manners dictate, congratulate the victor, congratulations Bronislaw Komorowski.”Komorowski’s linking of the two main slogans of the campaign – his and his opponent’s, highlight the fact that following these elections Poland appears a country that is sharply divided, almost fifty-fifty.
