A gang of men are currently standing trial for abducting a girl and forcing her to dig her own grave, after subjecting her to physical and mental abuse.

The 18-year old was abducted in the south-east town of Staszow in March earlier this year while waiting at a bus stop. Amongst the gang, which consisted of three men aged 18, 20 and 27 and two minors aged 15 and 16, was her former boyfriend.

As well being told that she was about to be murdered, the girl was made to dig her grave and write her will as the gang watched on, taunting her.

“The men tied her hands together, secured a bag over her head, tormented, attacked and threatened to kill her. They then made her dig a hole in the ground, telling her that this was to be her grave,” said Slawomir Mielniczuk a spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Kielce.

After humiliating the girl further and sexually assaulting her, some of which was recorded by members of the gang, she was driven to her brother and ordered to remain silent about the whole ordeal.

However, after plucking up courage, the girl decided to contact the authorities and the men were subsequently arrested.

“The men have confessed to committing all of the acts alleged against them. We have filed an application requesting a criminal conviction without a hearing. We are now awaiting an answer,” said Mielniczuk.

For the deprivation of liberty, with the particular inclusion of torment, the men face a maximum of up to 10 years behind bars.

The two minors are currently awaiting prosecution procedures before a family court.

Cruelty, like love, is a distinctive feature of human beings; the lower animals can neither love nor hate; rather they like and disike. Our intelligent free will opens the possibility for excesses of either type, and renders us responsible for our actions and their consequences.
